Never heard of it (unless it goes by some different name over here). What's it about?

*first post* i love haruhi =] its about a girl who is slightly odd and who starts a club to keep herself amused by finding alines espers and time travelers.
But as the story goes along you find out shes more than just odd

its all told through the point of of a guy called kyon who unwittingly becomes the focus of her crazy ways i'd advise you watch it if you can

Suzumiya Haruhi is based on a series of short novels which won some really famous award in Japan, and is currently one of the biggest, if not already the biggest, rage in the anime world this year. It ended its run about month or two back.

The story is about Suzumiya Haruhi, who is, uh, eccentric to say the least (more like mentally challenged). It's almost pure comedy, and to make it much more interesting, the episodes released are NOT in order. Believe it or not, the first episode is ep11, followed by 1, 2, 7, 3 etc etc.

Also note that the novels themselves, while in chronological order, themselves have no numbering, so you can't really know in which order the novels are supposed to be in unless you ask around.

It's almost pure comedy, and for those who like to dig into the story and plot, there's a lot of chances here. What with the episode order already being messed up, there's also a lot of elements in the anime that reflects certain events that occur in the novel, plus some that refer to other parts in other episodes.

Baka-tsuki is currently translating the novels, and they have a wiki-esque page for all the explanations of the anime series, as well as links in the translations for explanations for some terms used in the novels.

I love the fact that its out of chronological order, gives watching it just one more dimension of coolness
Some people complain about it and watch it in chronological order, but if you do that (at least the first time around) its like watching the end of a film sfirst and then watching the rest. The conclusion happens some where in the middle of the story, and part of whats compelling you to watch to the end is the wonder "what are they talking about? why does he know that?" ect.

So to those who refuse to watch it how the director intended it i say, " would you cut up Pulp Fiction and put it in chronological order?" No! its because thats not how its meant to be seen=] The director and writer made a concious descision about the orser, and simply becasue its animated and a TV series doesn't mean that thats stupid. One person on you tube said "Only an idiot would watch it in the directors stupid order!" Which makes me sad that some people are so closed minded as to not be able to watch things in chronological order .

( sorry about the giant rant full of spelling mistakes =] )
i wouldn't say shes mentally challenged just extremely narcasistic in her tendencys. Which just adds to the hilarity when she has apsilutely no remorse. Like when she frames the computer club chief for sexual harrasment and makes him give up his best computer and set up the internet connection in tears. Poor kyons reations get more and more jaded as the series goes on because he relises there realy nothing he can do

Its seriously and awesome watch ^-^ the kind of thing that makes you sad when you hit the end =]

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya= high school, scifi comedy( dont be put off by the first episode, its a joke =])

Hellsing= Vampires, gothic anime blood and gore abound

Outlaw Star= space pirates scifi adventure. very good, slight bad language and a bit of gun violence but other wise its all good=]

i know those are deffinately up there and they're all good cult hits =] and a nice broad selection of Genre too
