Posted by Mokiepoet on 08.02.2012, 05:44 PM: I liked Ponyo better than I did Arrietty, but niether are on my top 10 favorite Ghibli films. Ponyo is odd -no backstory about her dad and why does Sosuke's mother drive so crazy?? I couldn't wait to see Arrietty, but when I finally did, I was disapointed, it was lacking. I need to watch it again, but in Japanese instead of English.

It almost felt like a parody of Miyazaki's older movies. However, I just rewatched it recently and was a lot more impressed by it. Everything seemed to make sense to me this time and the whole movie just flowed beautifully. I also loved the bright colors used in the movie. In my opinion, Ponyo is just as good as most of Miyazaki's older works.
