  Porco Rosso dubbing

According to Nausicaa.net, there was news that Porco Rosso had been dubbed in english and it's first screening is in Austin, Texas. Has anyone from Austin seen it yet? How did the dub sound?

Hopefully it'll get a theatrical release in more areas soon...

Um, the screening is on the 14th. So i dont think anyone has watched it yet, unless theyre a ghibli rep.

The dubbing is done by the same ppl who did SA, so i doubt the dubbing is "the best", tho i guess it helps that its set in italy, and they can easily find italian voice actors. Unfortunately, theyre NOT using italians, if the name Michael Keaton is anything to go by.

And hopefully, the dubbed dialogue will follow true to the original, and that they wont add extra dialogue that were never in the original (remember what Chihiro said at the end of SA?)

I thought SA's cast was one of the best I've heard (and I've seen lots of English dubs that I'm really picky about) so I'm thrilled to hear they're going to be casted in Porco Rosso.

I didn't think the extra dialogue was all that harsh in SA. Believe me, there's been far, FAR worse than that. Plus, other than the extra dialogue, it stayed true to the story--the one major thing I REALLY noticed was that Rin's name was changed to Lin, but I think that was done because many of the "r's" in the Japanese language are equivlent to the "l's" in the English language. Or at least, that's what I think, based on the English dubs I've heard where the "r's" in character's names are changed to "l's".
At least SA wasn't butchered; heck, if you ask me, they were pretty nice about allowing Bo to threaten Chihiro; most studios wouldn't stand for that; think of what a studio like 4kids would do (4kids has done some pretty awful things to some anime series).

No no, i mean the dub as in the translated script. But either way, i wouldnt agree that all the voice actors were good, especially Yubaaba. Compared to the japanese version, the english voice made Yubaaba sound like a frail grumpy woman compared to the constant screaming voice of the japanese version.
