I saw the movies which are somewhat close to the storyline> but considering that it had to be condensed into two movies, it's understandable that a lot gets lost in between.

Personally, I much prefer Monster than Death Note. For a crime manga that relies heavily on social engineering and logic, it has a lot of holes and leaps of faith in it its story. Monster was more realistic and believable.

Similar to Death Note is a manga called Bloody Monday, and another that's still running is called Liar Game. The latter is the better of the two, although IMO both are still below Monster in terms of quality.

I saw the anime about a year ago, and loved it. Gave it to three friends and they all loved it too.

However, I got bored halfway through the first film, switched off and didn't bother with the others.

I haven't read the manga.

I need to get back into this! I had started watching the anime, but my current internet connection isn't great for streaming videos, so I stopped. I'll see if it'll be easy enough for me to continue...

I recommend animeseason.com if you're streaming, arren, or any site that uses MySpace player.

I tried watching a MySpace video earlier and it didn't even start loading, so I don't think that'll work very well. Perhaps I'll just persevere with YouTube.

Also, recently I've been a bit busier than I'm used to, so I suppose it's no wonder I haven't got back into it yet.

Go to Hulu. They have Death Note there, and it's high quality, and it is subbed. So it is happiness.

@Roar
lol, Monster. Is that what that is? We have like the entire series in our Japanese class sitting on a shelf, and I always wondered why there were books with blood-spatter designs on the spines in our class room. O_o I am still confuuuuused.

It sucks that to use Hulu you need to be in the US... =/ it looked pritty good...

The beginning was mildly compelling but I felt it wore off pretty quickly. When that certain character was killed off, the show lost all interest from me.

Monster is by far the finest psychological manga I've ever read. And is at least realistic, which appeals to me. If you have a thing for crime/psychological genre, this is one for you. There aren't any riddles or deductions like Death Note though, so fans of that genre may not enjoy it so much.

I really enjoyed reading the manga. I was actually saddest when a certain female character was killed off, but I can see why they did it. It was a really good, compelling detective story I thought. I really enjoyed how smart the characters were made out to be, by actually doing very smart things (rather than being portrayed as smart by simply getting good grades or people saying how smart they are). It seemed like a legitimate intellectual duel, although it did get seem to get weaker in the second half or so.

Would it matter if I saw the films, the series then read the Manga. I am just thinking in terms of money ?.
