  Just A Random Question (10)

What have you been doing sense I've been gone, and did you miss me?

I've been doing a lot, but nothing out of the ordinary. Going to university, writing essays, doodling in my notebook, catching up with friends, watching anime and playing online games.

Since I barely know you, I'd be lying if I said I particularly missed you, and I don't like to lie. I did wonder what question you'd be coming up with next, though.

PKWW? Hmmmm? sounds familiar somehow.....

hahaha, just funning with ya, PK...

Lately, because of the inactivity in the Tavern, it is not unusual for someone to be gone for a few days... But, all the same, it is nice to see you again...

Of course I missed ya! >< (looks like the emoticon codes on this forum are different than another one I use...hmm...)

Hey, this forum (or I guess I should consider this a 'tavern' of sorts) is probably one of my faves. So much cameraderie!

I've been off for a few days mehself, so no worries!

Oh, what have I been doing? Just trainspottin', watchin' some anime and some MLP, tinkerin' with software, and doin' just the same old, same old stuff.

That and being a typically melancholic, verbose scholar and (some would argue) appearing a bit adorkable...

adorkable??? cute turn of word there, ADW... lol

trainspotting!!! I spot many, many more trains than I really want to spot! lol

Especially when I am at the crossing 1/2 mile from my house that is my outlet to the rest of the workd... two tracks and I frequently get caught at it when one train is moderately going by and THEN the other one from the opposite direction starts up after sitting there the whole time! And it moves slowly for its whole length! On a couple of occasions I have even had to wait for a third train to make its way past....

True, in the overall scheme of life, these minutes don't amount to much.... except when you have ice cream in a bag in back, etc... or you are experiencing a serious call from Mother Nature and your Mother Nature defenses aren't working as well as they used to do when you were younger.... sigh...

There is a by-pass, but that is over a mile away, usually not in the direction that I need or want to go. And, because the crossing is only three car lengths from the freeway ramps, by the time you realize that you have a problem, it's too late...... double sigh...

It used to be a single track with sidings spaced periodically along the way for trains to pass one another BUT!!!

A few years ago the railroad people decided to help us out... yeah, right!

They built a second track from Beaumont thru to Yuma, I believe it is... Their newspaper articles said, "hey, citizens, you are so lucky... This will mean less time for you to be stuck at a crossing as now the trains will be able to pass each other and not tie up the crossings as much..." bullpucky!

Before, the trains could only be so long because of the shortness of the sidings. There had to be a limit so that they could pass. You generally had time between trains to cross before the next one came by.

NOW? They can be as long as they want, and they HAVE increased in length... I've even seen two trains, both going in the same direction, one doing about 20-25MPH and the other one going a little bit faster... Not just the helper engines going past, they were both full length trains...

hahaha, sorry about the rant. i got carried away, lol...

I don't mind the trains all that much, except in the times mentioned above... lol

TMI on paragraph 4 husky!

i quite like old trains, especially old ones. When i was in the Isle of Man with scouts last year we used the old steam train service that they have a few times, the carriages were really cool, they were small with cool really old fashioned windows. i quite enjoyed it.

My friends dad used to work with Iarnród Eireann so he gets free rail travel all over Europe. He went backpacking last year and saved a rake on travel..... Lucky bugger

Yes, I remember the old trains... The sleeper berths with the little net bag in the window that you put your stuff in while sleeping. The clickedy-clack clickedy-clack of the wheels lulling you to sleep. The wonderful sights from the windows while passing thru the wilderness areas. The different scenes from the urban areas. Quite wonderful.

Now, with the newer style of track in 1/4 mile or longer lengths that are welded together, no clickedy-clack sound... sigh...

miss that...
