Hey all

I have a 9 year old daughter and a 5 year old son... they love Miyazaki films, and are pretty good movie-watchers (don't get scared easily etc).

I don't know too many other titles and am looking to learn more as I really love animation and get rather tired of the Hollywood styles.

What are some other good titles I can watch out for?

... I think those should all work for a 9 year old. Nothing wrong with those for a 5 year old, I don't think. Though it's harder to say whether he'd like them xD Look them up and tell me what you think ^^

Oh wow... fail. I'm so used to watching things with subs I didn't even think of kids having to read along with a movie. I think only Summer Wars, Brave Story and Hoshi o ou Kodomo have English dubs. =/

Well, my friend is watching some called Shirokuma Café (Polar Bear Café) at the moment, which I understand is aimed at children. It's pretty cute and funny. The main character is a panda, and there's also a polar bear who runs a café along with various other animals. Um, there is the problem of subtitles again though... well, Shirokuma is pretty popular I think so it'll probably get a dub.

Actually, Shirokuma Cafe was originally a josei manga, as unlikely as that might seem. Anyway, I watch it and I would say it would be fine for kids. Subtitles might be an issue though, since it's not even finished airing in Japan yet, and also it's worth bearing in mind that there's a lot of humour based on Japanese puns.

Azumanga Daioh might be another good one. Like Shirokuma Cafe it's divided into very short, sketch-type stories, and it's quite light-hearted. It is sometimes a bit weird though and there's the occasional rude joke (I think it's usually pretty tame though!). The dub isn't very well-liked, so I don't know if that's the best idea...

Also similar to Azumanga, but a bit wackier and probably better for kids really. It follows the same sketch structure. But like Shirokuma Cafe, there isn't a dub.

Ohh if we're including anime series, Kemono no Souja Erin would be so good! Sadly, no dub.

There's the usual older stuff like Card Captor Sakura. And Digimon? I really enjoyed that and I was around the same age as your daughter when I saw it.

Hikaru no Go is dubbed. As is the original Hunter x Hunter but... I think that the 2011 version of HxH is more kids friendly... and that's not dubbed >_<

Daa! Daa! Daa! works too, I think.

I do really like to have actual DVDs with packaging etc, so if any of these titles resonate with me, does anyone know the best place to order english dubs?

A lot of these are pretty recent, so there aren't many you can get dubbed on DVD. I think a standard big online shop would be the place to go, like Amazon or something. Even eBay if it's a bit harder to get hold of.

Also some have very unpopular dubs. Cardcaptor Sakura in particular has a notorious dub, which I think you can't even get on DVD. I've never watched the dub for Azumanga Daioh, but I know you can at least get it fairly easily.

Oh Kodocha is awesome, but only the first half is dubbed out of 102 eps.
