  GHIBLI CUP 2020 Discussion

It's still very early, but I want to start some preparations for the next Ghibli Cup!

In particular, I want to decide the "host". This is one Ghibli film that will automatically get in at the top of the first group (skipping the new qualification round), and it will serve as a theme for the tournament. Last time, it was Nausicaa.

Now, I have two suggestions for this: either members make nominations with reasons, and I make the final choice, OR I make a shortlist and everyone gets to vote on it.

So which of these would you prefer? I'm happy either way.

hahaha, I'm lazy and while I could do the first of your options, I would prefer the second option. that way I just make a choice and won't have to do any creative writing...

That's fine with me! Any objections?

Ohh I missed the last one. This seems fun. I'm happy to pick from a shortlist as well.

The actual thing is still pretty far off, but you can join in if you make sure you're around in... maybe late January. Anyway yeah, I'll come up with my shortlist and post that soon.

You've probably seen that the schedule for the 2020 tournament is now up in the information thread! I made a logo for it, and I also made one for last time while I was at it. I'll repost them both here just for fun.

For anyone who hasn't noticed yet, the polls are up for the qualifying round. Since they're just regular one-on-one polls, don't worry too much about avoiding ones you haven't seen. At this point I'd rather make sure that enough people are voting to get clear results.

Hey, I just want to remind everyone that the qualifying round will close today, so you have only a few more hours. If you haven't voted, now is the time!

I decided to change the rule about needing an account to vote. I doubt that there will really be any problems with people trying to cast more votes than they're allowed, so I've changed the settings so that guests can also post and use polls. I think the need to sign in might have put people off last year.

That Ursula voting group... man...

There's about 24 hours left of voting round 1! You'll get another chance to vote, but voting twice will have a greater impact on the result. So if you haven't done so yet, get in there soon!

The group stage will end in about 12 hours. Get in your second (or first, for that matter) vote while you still can!

The group stage is over and the results are in. Come back tomorrow for the first two quarter finals:

Kiki's Delivery Service v Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Spirited Away v The Tale of Princess Kaguya

And now the quarter finals are done! The semi finals will take place over this weekend, with Kiki's Delivery Service against Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke facing Whisper of the Heart.
