  A non-Ghibli mention of a Ghibli film...

In chapter 92 in volume 14 of Yotsuba&! there is a dialog betweem Yotsuba and her Father who are in a buffet-style restaurant in Tokyo:

Yotsuba: "What if it's like the TV show we saw...?
"...and I eat so much that I turn into a pig?"

Father (muttering to himself) "Spirited Away"

Father: "Don't worry, this is just how this restaurant works..."

I dont remember where but I saw some character referencing totoro just recently, there is probably some long wiki page somewhere that lists all of these references. but to hit the mainstream, it has to be jojo reference

"jojo reference?

I read a lot of comic strips and have come across a number of Ghibli mentions or references Like the one I mentioned above, by little Yotsuba, (a little girl of abt 5/6 who lives with her single father)

Looks like Totoro had a rough 10 minutes... lol

There used to be a cartoon strip callede "Blue Bonnet" written by Ed Owens that every once in a while used Ghibli references such as one of the characters speaking to another over a handitalkie, "Goldie to Princess Mononoke"

or on another day, a space alien referring to a Miyazaki wormhole..

Owens eventually stopped writing this strip as few years ago...
