Totoro stage play by the Royal Shakespeare Company

I hadn't heard anything about this until last night, but it seems there's going to be a Totoro stage play on around the end of this year in London! It's being produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and Joe Hisaishi is involved.

I wonder if there's any connection to the Spirited Away play that was going on in Japanese recently. There was a Nausicaa play a few years ago too, but as I understand it that one was kabuki.

Wow, that is fantastic... Keep us posted, please... I won't be able to see it, obviously...

I'm quite interested to see how this turns out. I might even be able to go to it!

By the way, I just happened to also see an update about the Nausicaa kabuki play I mentioned. Apparently it'll be running again in Tokyo this July: https://gizmodo.com/studio-ghibli-nausic...ao-m-1848844119

Oh, that's really exciting!! I would still like to go, but I don't have any plans for it yet. I think you'll be the first of us to see it at least.

From this November until next March I think, this will be back on! Maybe this time I'll manage to go.

I watched the Totoro clip and loved the part where Totoro's shadow starts to appear over the girls heads...

The time has nearly come! I'm seeing the play on Monday night, so I'm heading down to London today. Of course I'll share my thoughts afterwards!

I saw it last night and it was SO good! I loved the set design and the puppets, and the performances of Satsuki and Mei really captured their personalities. It made really good use of new arrangements of the original score too!

They announced this morning that it's coming back again, this time at a different theatre. Still in London, but I do wonder if the fact it's going on for multiple seasons is a sign that it might show in other countries at some point.
