That sounds very interesting! I guess I've heard of female sumo, but I can't say I know a lot about it. I think my impression was that it only exists at an amateur level - does that match what you saw?

Yes, only amateur, from what I saw... There were a number of different women shown, but focused on two women, one heavy woman and one of normal staturewho were both striking for champion in their weight class, near as I could fighure. One made it and one took third place.

I'm pretty sure that weight was the criteria used for different levels... I will see if I can find out more iinformation..

That sounds about right from what I can remember. I think it's amateur sumo that has weight classes (I think they're aiming to get it into the Olympics one day?) while the older professional sport throws everyone in together. Certainly when I saw a sumo tournament, the wrestlers were all shapes and sizes - but most of the best ones were HUGE.

on NHK just finished a story about Momoko.. Might have been titled "The Story of Momoko", but not 100%
About a Japanese school girl on Okinawa before and during Japan entry into WW2... Interesting seeing it from her point of view. This was a RL film, her attraction to piano and the sensei who plays, admiring his ability... There are connections occasionally with him at different times. From when she is 12 thru to when she is 16 and US troops are attacking the Island, as she is working in a bare building 'hospital' as a student volunteer from her school. The Sensei's final meeting is when he meets her in a cave, hiding and tells her to live and not die...

It started as memories and ends when she is an old woman...

I'm ready... I'll likely be waking up some of my neighbirs once I start sounding off my air-horns, lol

I was with some of my Family at Christmas and am looking forward to a better New Year than this one has been, in many ways, unfortunately...

New Zealand and Australia are already into and celebrating 2024...

Best of Wishes to ALL my Tavern Friends in the coming Year...

Random thought: If time travel were possible, would the future already be influencing our present? What if you are stuck in future? Does it mean you won't exist in your present and that will change the future you're stuck into?

WOW! It got past me this year, but it has been 16 years since I joined the Tavern!!!

Wow, that's wild! It makes me realise that I've been a Tavern member for most of my life, which is even weirder to think.

My ex-wife passed away last night 3-22-24 @ 10:57pm with our 2 sons by her side... I last spoke with her a week ago and she was cheerful then after her initial diagnosis ... Then her systems started shutting down today. Our daughter had no time to get here from her home...

Been having some trouble with my external hard drive (that I save all my stuff onto instead of taking up space on my laptop's more limited internal hard drive) and took it to a place yesterday, to find out the issue was MUCH worse than I thought. Much more expensive to fix too. I'd even been thinking about getting a better one and relegating the old one to be the backup, so I guess this is a lesson not to drag my feet on that kind of thing in future!

When my old 7 laptop went belly up, I had to go tp the 10 that I had bought for just that purpose, but anguished over the loss of ALL the local historical that was on the 7...

A few months later, a local puter-smart friend came to my aid... I didn't know that it was possible, but he took the harddrive from the old 7 and took the harddrive out of an external harddrive and dropped mine in and VOILA!!!
