The archery range was the very back of the sports grounds in the farthest corner of the school property. Probably so no-one gets accidentally killed if people miss the target.
Behind it was a wire fence. I was happy in these sorts of places where no-one went. Smokers places. I climbed through and pushed through some undergrowth until I reached the trees. This was still school ground. Kuro told me it was. In fact it was the most special part because no-one else went here. No people anyway.
I’d spent all day yesterday here, just being in a place where Kuro was happiest and where he’d shut up and leave me alone. Once I’d done what he asked. So I did it and once the offering was in place I felt him relax and literally get off my case. I sat under Oya’s shade, got my guitar out tuned up and began to play light quiet soothing music that allowed me to drift away and forget it all.
Here there were very old trees indeed; Japanese Zelkova, Katsura, Japanese lilac, a big twisted Camphor tree and of course the male Ginkgo a native of Eastern China and a primitive species going back unchanged 65 million years. They can grow to be 1,000 years old and this one whom Kuro called Oya was huge and ancient.

We walked back to the quiet boy, Hibiki-san who was waiting in the street. As I went by I looked at him and couldn’t help but feel so sad for him. Be strong. You’ll need to. When that bastard gets in your head… I raised a hand to the two of them.
“See you!”
I went back through the gate and turned right cutting round back of the second wing and along by the running track. Then I turned along the far fence and went off towards the baseball pitch, the tennis courts and archery range. There was a place I needed to be.
Under the trees.

I crossed the road, dived behind the container, dumped my gear and almost frantic with need lit up and inhaled deeply.
I leaned back on the fence.
Ah, that's better. Give me ten minutes and I'll be fine again.

He glared at me. With eyes his colour the look suited him. It really did. quote:

For a moment I almost snapped but something calmed me down. Nicotine. The thought of nicotine saved me.
“Nor are cigarettes. There’s one other thing I think. I think if I don’t have a smoke right now, I’m going to scream.”
I walked past him, grabbed my guitar and bag from beside the bench and began walking towards the main gate. That industrial place the other side of the road looked more inviting every second. I could see an old container in the corner of the car park. Behind there looked a perfect spot.

Uh, right. Here comes the philosophical crap. Sorry but there isn’t an easy way to say it.

As I watched Megu-chan go and silently cheered her on, Kazuo-san’s voice came from behind me.

He had to have one of his lungs completely removed, but he made a full recovery, I’m living with him right now and he’s perfectly healthy." I stopped, feeling a small amount of anger building inside at Kuro, my brother wasn’t totally healthy, at least not mentally. “The shadows… they aren’t dangerous, they protect their hosts for lack of a better word, for a long time. They'll help you too with what ever problem you have, whether you know what the problem is or not.”
I fell silent and looked to the ground, it was all I wanted to say about the subject, more than what I had planned, but if it helped him even a little it didn’t matter how much I had said or didn’t.

“Baka!” I hissed under my breath as I watched him leave.
I didn’t think I just got up and went over to him quickly, hoping he’d come back, for the sake of Megu-chan.
“Please I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to ask that question. It was stupid I know and I’m sorry.” I paused and thought. “I only asked it, because I’ve got information on it… that I think might help you understand.”
Whoa big step there, you’re going to tell all three?
“Please come back and sit down.”

It’d been pretty quiet before her sudden outburst and I looked quizzically at her hand over mine.
“I’d apologise for running away first, maybe explain why. He’s probably lonely for a reason. Sorry that sounded a little harsh. What I meant was, to start off gently, just some small questions or sentences here ad there, make him feel safe and that he knows you care and are his friend.” I stopped and thought for a few seconds. “Honestly, just let him know you’re there and you care. That’s what I’d do.”
I looked over to the pair and back to Megu.
“Do you want him to come over here?”

I smiled at her and started walking, the corridors nearly deserted, with a few students wandering here and there.
Upon reaching the lockers I took out my guitar case and slung it round my free shoulder, waiting for her to take the lead.
"Where d'you want to go?"
