Japan isn't a large country. As large as Germany.
But its climate largely vary from regions.
You shoudn't travel to Japan in summer because it's too hot and damp. You'll need 3 t-shirts and 3 showers a day.

That's really interesting, Kanta; flying ants don't hurt ~ but like all insects I am terrified of them. Honestly, I can't stand them, least of all spiders. The nastiest thing was when my friend dangled a spider in front of me... I fled...
Anyway, back to weather. Here in the UK we are part of the west European maritime climate. There are few extreme temperatures, gradual changing of temperature between months, summers are usually warm and winters cool. There is regualar but rarely torrential rainfall. The 'typical' temperatures are:
Summer: 14ºc - 20ºc
Winter: Just below and just above 0ºc
Those are the average temperatures. At the moment we have rare extremes... far too hot, yesterday it was 35ºc ...
Well, that's the science behind it. We did climate in geography recently, so I remember it well ...
In answer to Howell and anyone else who is interested ~ London as a place is quite vague. There is the City of London which is at the heart, but now it has grown so much there seems to be confusion over what is London? I use the M25 as the boundary of London; but others use the greenbelt (the band of forest around London) or some say anything with the 020 telephone code is also London.
I love London because there are so many different people there. People from different faiths, countries, cultures, backgrounds all in one city. London is the most populated city in Europe (Oslo is apparently the most expensive place to live; not London). There are lots of districts which make up London (West End, Whitechapel, Mayfair etc.)
Well, I'll leave it at that. Most of you probably knew all that, but there it is anway; a brief insight into London .

I've just heard that tomorrow is predicted to be the hottest day in London ever... . I also read that the hottest UK temperature so far has been 38.5ºc 8]

Well, in my opinion, warm is best. Not hot, like today, but just warm... room temperature ~ when you can comfortably wear a T-shirt and jeans without sweating or shivering...
Although, at night, I love it when it's frezing and stormy ~ torrential rain and thunder ~ yep, I love that! Oh, and howling wind...

Here in LA its cold and rainy (for a desert!) in winter and hot and dry in summer (these last couple of days the temperature topped 38c). During summer-fall (july-october), the air gets so dry that it's almost a guaranteed headache for me, so when october comes along I feel really releived.

Kanta, that's an incredibly interesting map of Japan's climates. In California we have a predominantly high pressure sistem dominating the summer which means sinking air which inhibits cloud formation and rain, except over Arizona and southern Nevada where the extremely high temperatures of the desert (I couldn't in a billion years imagine myself living in those states) create low pressure systems (rising air) which bring in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, and even from the waters around Baja California, creating monsoon size rains. But in winter the high pressure systems move south and allow low pressure currents to bring in storms from the pacific ocean. You know, I never thought Japan was that hot, maybe because it doesn't have a beach-going-summer stereotype like California, actually I thought it was pretty cool because of the pacific ocean...

In Japan, It's still very hot everyday. Fall hasn't come yet.
I sometimes go to the river to swim with kids.
Look. The river is very beautiful, isn't it??
The water is very clear and the kids are catching shrimps.
