Cats I've had
In mass profusion
So not burdened
With confusion...

Cats I've owned
One seventy-five!
It's a wonder
I'm still alive!

Ranger, Fumar,
Rags and Tiger,
Bear and Blackie,
And also Niger..

Mr Chester
Aloyisius Katt,
My favorite one
For all of that.

Cinnamon Tiger
And the Leopard
Sweet lil' Sugar
In the cupboard...

Sugar gave us
Many kittens
So many names
Even Mittens...

Now I have none
In the house now
Could it be, 'cause
I'm a Bow-wow ?

I do not hate cats, lol (very tasty, so I've heard...)

I just like to tease...

BTW, these above were some of the actual names that I remember, there were so many...

Sugar did give us a number of litters, Rags got hit by a car and spent three weeks under the bed recovering. Chester's (for short) FULL name was "Mister Chester Aloyisius Katt, K with two Ts".

Then Odin and Jason, huge cats, solid black with bright yellow eyes, looked like panthers walking. I got on the scale and weighted my self then held Jason, 25 lbs and he was the 'little' one, Odin was 35 lbs!. We got them when their owner, one of Mom's co-workers, was killed in a motorcycle on Christmas Eve, bummer story. Odin would hide under the bed and if anyone came close, he would growl. I would lie on the floor talking to him and slowly edging some soft food and milk towards him, then leave him alone for awhile. It took over three weeks before I could get him to let me hold him. Even then, if I was holding him and someone make a quick movement nearby, all I had in my arms them were some lo-o-o-ng scratches...

Never learned what breed they were and no one ever believes the weights I give, but they are true weights. I was 22 when I had them, before they went to another home. Not like some fat cats, no pun intended' they were very sleek animals... Very panther-like in appearance...

why thank you Farren, it did take some effort trying to remember some of the names...

The best was a big orange tabby, He was with us for over 12 years. Now, for the life of me, I can'r recall his name... (I could make something up and you'd never know the diff, but I don't work that way...) If you had a cup of cocoa with a little left in the cup, he would dip his paw into the cocoa then lick off the paw over and over...

spaced out over twenty seven yrs or so...

That doesn't count the 10 or so dogs, 3 or four rabbits, rats, mice, half a dozen snakes (separated of course), guinea pigs (Rosie, the little squeaker lasted 5-1/2 yrs...out lived her daughters)

Bear, we called our dryer cat because one day, the wife put a load of clothes in the dryer and turned it on... I kept hearing this 'thumping' sound from the dryer and figured it was just a pair of sneakers... After a bit I mentioned it to the wife and she said tht she hadn't washed any sneakers... went out to check and ol' Bear was about done to a "t"... I got him out and started wrapping him in hot water soaked towels, kept it up, slowly reducing the temp of the towels and Bear. Finally got him back to normal,, more or less. He never went near the dryer again and the edges of his ears were singed a bit. He was a black cat and the very edges of the ears grew back white...

loved them all at the time, too...

Ol Ranger came to us when my daughter was two, she would plop ontop of him and use him for a pillow... Don't know where he came from and after two years, was gone... whether hit by a car or found another home, don't know...

All of our cats were outdoor animals...

TSE... I have a copy (photocopy only, unfortunately) of
"Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" with the drawings by Edward Gorey.

I even have a video of "Cats"... I love the music!!! Very well played and choreographed... have to get the dvd, if they have it...

Rum Tum Tugger, the Jellicles, Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer, Old Deuteronomy, Mr. Mistoffelees, Skimbleshanks, Bustopher Jones, Gus the Theatre Cat...

Love the play and the book...

surprisingly, our little library has a copy of the book...

sorry for the double post...

Macavity: The Mystery Cat

Macavity's a Mystery Cat: he's called the Hidden Paw--
For he's the master criminal who can defy the Law.
He's the bafflement of Scotland yard, the Flying Squad's despair:
For when they reach the scene of the crime-- Macavity's not there!

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity.
His powers of levitation would make a fakir stare,
And when you reach the scene of the crime--- Macavity's not there!
You may seek him in the basement, you may look up in the air---
But I tell you once and once again, Macavity's not there!

Macavity's a ginger cat, he's very tall and thin;
You would know him if you saw him, for his eyes are sunken in.
His brow is deeply lined with thought, his head is highly domed;
His coat is dusty from neglect, his whiskers are uncombed.
He sways his head from side to side, with movements like a snake;
And when you think he's half asleep, he's always wide awake.

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
For he's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity.
You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square---
But when a crime's discovered, then Macavity's not there!

He's outwardly respectable. (They say he cheats at cards.)
And his footprints are not found in any file of Scotland Yard's.
And when the larder's looted, or the jewel case if rifled,
Or when the milk is missing, or another Peke's been stifled,
Or the greenhouse glass is broken, and the trellis past repair---
Ay, there's the wonder of the thing! Macavity's not there!

And when the Foreign Office find a Treaty's gone astray,
Or the Admiralty lose some plans and drawings by the way,
There may be a scrap of paper in the hall or on the stair---
But it's useless to investigate---Macavity's not there!
And when the loss has been disclosed, The Secret Service say:
'It must have been Macavity!' ---but he's a mile away.
You'll be sure to find him resting, or a-licking of his thumbs,
Or engaged in doing complicated long division sums.

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
There never was a Cat of such of such deceitfullness and suavity.
He always has an alibi, and one or two to spare:
At whatever time the deed took place---MACAVITY WASN'T THERE!
And they say that all the Cats whose wicked deeds are widely known
(I might mention Mungojerrie, I might mention Griddlebone)
Are nothing more than agents for the Cat who all the time
Just controls their operations: the Napoleon of Crime!

from the book: Old Possums Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot

I hope that you enjoyed it...

In the words of the late, lamented Jack Benny...

"Now cut that out!"

Thank you, but no praise was necessary. It's not my work, merely something that I enjoy and am very happy to share...

hee hee hee, one thing nice about having your own thread (even tho I didn't start it).. I can post most anytime I feel a pOem coming on....heh heh heh...

let's see, who, I mean what shall I pick on today....

hahaha, just looked out the window...

Guy rode by, a bright red shirt
He seems to be so comfy
Could it be the sun is warm
Making him so toasty...

The weather here is desert-y
Gets hot here in the summer
When it hits one hundred ten
We sizzle, what a bummer!

Even higher, we have seen
One, one, seven in the shade!
Wishing for a tall, cool glass
Unsweetened lemonade...

A beer is nice sometimes, you know
When we've been out to play
We don't even need a reason
If it's at the end of day!

A sailors lot is rough, though, see
On the ocean, broiling sunny.
No beer available to us
And the water's tasting funny.

Stored in tanks below the deck
It sits there aging for us
Next time I want to go somewhere,
I think I'll take a bus...!

enjoy

seriously, I looked out the window and saw this guy riding by on a bicycle, wearing a red shirt...OK, maybe it was more orangy, lol... still, when I started writing, I had no idea where the poem was going... I just started out, thinking (yeah, I know...don't say it ) a line or two at a time...

And that's how I ended up on the bus, sir...

Missing ships movement!
How can that be , sir...
I ain't in the Navy no more... hee
What do you mean, I've been Pressed by the Royal Navy??? > > >

OK, OK, my mind works in mysterious ways, unknown even to its owner... 8]

The guy's bright red shirt is hurting my eyes >.<

To my son:

I saw you pass two days ago,
Back then you seemed so sad;
And yesterday you passed again,
That day you seemed so mad.

I wish you wouldn't let those fickle
Emotions control your life;
But I guess I too am not guiltless:
For my feelings give me strife.

Today you passed again my way,
But seemed so strange today:
Not mad, not sad, not angry,
But hurt or pained in a way.

It's hard for me to know for sure,
But surely I can try
To find what's weighing on your heart,
What's troubling your mind?

I've heard it said "Would you like some cheese with that whine?"
But I know this season's almost gone-by, and change, my son, will come in time.

Just a little poem about a certain Ghibli Heroine........

..........But who could I be possibly waxing lyrical about?

"When I look into her deep, beautiful eyes..."

I see a bright, and beautiful future for every last one of us...

I see the walls of pessimism torn down with epic enthusiasm...

I see a reason to celebrate life, love, and humanity...

I see infinite reasons to smile, no matter what's getting me down...

I see wonderful, new friends for all of us from the world over...

I see admirable warmth, compassion, patience, and hope...

I see unbreakable spirit, and an unwaivering commitment to making
our world a better place for all of us for generations to come... (perhaps went a bit OTT there? )

I see artistry, creativity, and a blissful lack of inhibition...

When I look into her eyes...

I see light, and I'm blinded by the indescribable beauty, and
sheer magnitude of it all. Ta-Dah!

Ya think???? lol

Hey, artistic license, right?

regardless, it was good, thanks...

EDIT:

As I sit here
Reading threads
I've come to know
I have no dreads

The people here
Are nice and neat
So much fun,
What a treat

The Tavern is
A wonder place
So full of joy
And timely grace.

Happy, sad,
Love and more.
Seems nothing like
A boring chore.

Release in here
From daily care
With good people
To whom we share.

Stoic topics,
Fun and games,
Bosom buddies
There are no flames.

Tis' all for now,
I have to cease.
I wish you all,
Much love and peace...
