It's fine, not a problem at all, any employer will realise you have just left school and if you really sell yourself in your CV, you won't have to worry
If you are that concerned, do your family know any doctors, solicitors, etc other professionals that can at least write you a character reference ?
Or the company you did work experience with ?
Even if your family has had the same doctor for a while, he/she could write you one ...
Seriously though, present your CV well. Highlight your qualities (eg good team player, ability to work under pressure well, see deadlines as an invigorating challenge not a negative, good listener, excellent manner when dealing with the public ... Anything that's relevant to the job you want, really) and list everything that even comes close to work in a professional capacity.
Source : Mum had own business and regularly took on trainees;
partner just had a CV course at his local centre
Hope this helps

Wow, the 26th seems a long time ago for being just last week!
You shouldn't worry too much about references. Make your resume easy to read and awesome sounding, write and earnest but professional cover letter and then you get to the interview and that's your time to actually make an impression.
For younger people the references are more like technicalities or in some cases, tie breakers because it's understandable you've been busy with school (although good ones never hurt). Blackice has some good ideas. Try and think if you've ever done any sort of work with someone (doesn't have to be a job...could be you just gave them a hand with something, looked after their kids, whatever other small thing) and people like that can serve as references as long as you've known them a decent amount of time and they know you well.
Good luck with the job hunting!

Mm, you know, somehow my list of positive references are kinda slim, considering the amount of heat I trade with my colleagues. Eh, the cost of sticking to your principles is high.

It takes so much more effort to get good references in uni...it's a bit of a pain really. Yay for extracurriculars.

So this week I've been under a lot of stress from university, with some major deadlines and catching up to missed classes. So I mentioned being stressed. A friend of mine then sent me a nice email asking what was bothering me and if I wanted to talk about it. So I was touched and sent her a reply saying thank-you, and explaining all the things that were on my mind and making me feel frazzled. And I said that it was nice that someone would ask.
So then she sent me a reply basically saying that I should consider myself lucky to have the luxury of being stressed about school, because many people are stressed about food and money and what not. Which is strictly speaking true, but not exactly a winning recipe to make someone feel better.
Anyway, so rather than replying right away to point that out, I decided I should sleep on it and calm myself down. Now in the morning there's an abrupt email in my inbox that says I was rude not to reply saying thank you and that I am abusing her care. It's only last night that I read the thing in the first place.
So now I'm wondering, since I know that I'm not the most socially adept person, did I actually do something wrong or is she just being hypersensitive? I would never tell someone I'm trying to help that they're being ungrateful by not thanking me. When I write someone to offer support, I usually don't even expect a reply, let alone an immediate one.
But before I get mad I'd like to check if I really did do something wrong by not saying thanks right away. She seems to think that's the correct thing to do, and I really wouldn't know one way or the other.

Aww, first of all hugs to Mushka. I for one, know how you're feeling and it's awful. Feels like nothing will work out and that I'll fail and flunk out right up until I hand that stupid assignment in. Then things seem a lot better....but then you realize that the next deadline is an hour. xP
Second, your friend was probably feeling stressed about many things herself and decided to reply to your email at the wrong time. You didn't do anything wrong. You know how sometimes good intentions get messed up?
Expecting a thanks...yeah, I mean, it's nice when people send you one eventually. But sometimes, they want things to be done with and not talk about things anymore. And if you ask after someone, you should accept that you get what they want to give you, nothing more, nothing less.
Honestly, she probably just wanted you to ask how she was doing and got upset when she didn't hear right back from you. But maybe I'm reading between the lines a wee bit too much.

You've definitely done nothing wrong. She shouldn't get angry at you for not thanking her, as it's quite normal to want to think things over a bit before responding, especially when her "advice" was basically telling you to get over it and stop complaining. I wouldn't thank somebody for telling me that.

Is it acceptable to date your best friend's ex when is friend still isn't over the ex? I always thought it was a douche sort of move. Do you need permission? What if you don't have permission?
Like people don't normally do stuff like this after junior high, right?
Anyways, it's MY friend being the douche to his friend with his friend's ex. And he thought I was being silly for worrying, and that they're in love so whatever. He seems to think that once the his friend gets over the heartbreak, things will be perfectly alright.
...I dunno, in a sense I get it, all's fair in love and war and all that. But what happened to loyalty and all THAT?
Fen is conflicted. And I'm sorry if this post is confusing.

I'd say it's a bad idea. I mean, it might be okay, but it might all be a complete mess.
