As a matter of fact new articles about The Wind Rises is bursting out from all the media sites. Even Wall street journal streamed a exclusive dubbed clip.
But they did not or could not dig out anything special or new about the movie.
So i am skipping them.

From BOX OFFICE MOJO
The Wind Rises has grossed $4,119,000
Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $4,119,000 3.5%
+ Foreign: $112,722,821 96.5%(JAPAN)
= Worldwide: $116,841,821
note this
date -- rank -- gross -- change -- theaters -- change of theaters -- avrg total till date -- week
Feb 21–23 -- 25 -- $313,751 -- no change -- 21 -- no change -- $14,941 -- $313,751 -- 1
Feb 28–Mar 2 -- 13 -- $1,517,404 -- +384% -- 496 -- +475 -- $3,059 -- $1,953,947 -- 2
Mar 7–9 -- 16 -- $901,555 -- negative40.6% -- 496 - - no change -- $1,818 -- $3,346,735 -- 3
i think you guys got it . yeah 3rd march was the oscar prize giving and after that its just the people who like ghibli. So oscars has a big impact on ticket sells. half million in one week. Think like this . if it was released in time similar to frozen these figures must have jumped. Ill politics i do not know. But as a matter of fact oscar judges saw more popular movies more. which could have increased its chance
just try to compare it with Frozen figures
Mar 14–16 9 $2,117,000 -28.3% 1,466 -194 $1,444 $396,356,000 17
it is a proof how popular ghibli is . it grossed half of the profit from one-third theaters.
I would like to kick either the disney people or the ghibli one's who said it to release just before oscar
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=windrises.htm
NB: by the way frozen just hit the billion mark
so as i said people like and seek entertainment and only entertainment in things, as miyazaki said things have changed a lot in recent times. I wonder how people like me and some of the people in tavern exist.

SPOILERS AHEAD
So I just watched Kaze Tachinu yesterday night, and I have to say that it was somewhat familiar yet somewhat different from what I was used to from Miyazaki. In fact, to be honest it looked like the movie took bits and pieces from his other movies. The pace was a bit slow as expected, but there was still this air of there being something... different.

.
The opening scene seemed innocent enough, but then it started to form into what seemed like a condensation of Porco's life in a non-chronological order. His life from then on seemed pretty normal, other than signs that he seemed to be either from a large and powerful clan or a samurai family, judging from the speech pattern and household habits.
The fantasy part seemed to borrow ideas from HMC, and felt a tad overdramatic. Yes, it's a dream, but still.
I agree that the romance part felt very forced. I'd even go so far as to say that even Ponyo and Poppy Hill were better. The same almost happens to the humour, but that's just Miyazaki's style. Strangely, Kayo's crying scene during Naoko's departure looked way too much like Chihiro's onigiri scene.
Other than that, Kaze Tachinu is an engineer's dream. I especially like the way technical terms were explained very simply. His time at the hotel gave a fantastical view on his inspiration for the zero fighter which was quite tastefully done; a reminder that the greatest of ideas can often come from the simplest of moments.
Overall, I can't say that Kaze Tachinu was either good or bad. It was a very different movie from any of ghibli's works, and to compare them to any would be a disservice to either.
Recommended to fans of aviation, history, engineering and documentary-style movies.

Hoping to find somewhere near me to see this film, can't wait I managed to see From Upon Poppy Hill when that came out at a local independent cinema.
They usually show the film a month after release, so may have to wait till June :/.

I went to see this last night with my GF and mates, it was a very good film. I thoroughly enjoyed it, I agree it felt similar to a few previous Ghibli films in many ways but had a distinct new feel. I loved it and have the Collectors edition pre ordered.
Something that is good news, the cinema was packed about 700 people came to see it baring in mind it's a small town I had to travel 30 mins to get there but it was worth it. Started about 8.00pm.

How much news is there going to be now that it's come out in most of the places Tavern members live? I don't think it's a problem that people have moved on to other discussion of the film now.

Wait... is this out in Canada yet? I mean we've seen promotions and the Japanese trailer and whatnot, but I've yet to find it on DVD or something anywhere. :/ Wanted to watch it with some friends.
