Next Ghibli Film AnnouncementPost Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Search for Posts by Miyrru Report Post to a Moderator        IP Address Go to the top of this page

The newest Ghibli film will be announced on December 13th, thought that was kinda interesting. Not sure if its worth making a new thread for.

Any speculation on what it might be? I hope Miyazaki diverts from his Ponyo vibe and heads back to something a little more like Spirited Away.

wow I can't wait to hear what it is going to be. read the artical and it sounded like it's going to be directed by someone else but I could have miss-interpreted it. anyway I hope that it'll be something more along the lines of "howl's".

So, it's been announced.

http://www.ghibliworld.com/news.html

quote:
After yesterday's exclusive warming up on Twitter by GhibliWorld, today Studio Ghibli made the official announcement of their new full length feature film titled Karigurashi no Arrietty (The Borrower Arrietty). The film will be an adaptation of Mary Norton's Carnegie Medal winning novel The Borrowers and, as hinted earlier on GhibliWorld, will be directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi.

On the one hand......yay, new Ghibli film and all that.

On the other hand, it's not Miyazaki, but I guess I wasn't really expecting it to be. What I'm skeptic about is that its an adaptation of Mary Norton's "Borrowers". This makes me think of Howl's Moving Castle, or Tales from Earthsea. Adaptations don't seem to be a strength lately, I was kind of hoping for an original story.....but, still looking forward to it.

The Borrowers? Like, similar to that movie a few years back?

Not really looking forward to it, frankly.

Well this has kind of a let down feeling of it. I hadnt really noticed how many adaptations Ghibli has been doing, but it is more then occasional. It would be nice to have some more original work which has got to be the strength of the studio.

yay! I wished for it to be more like Howl's and it seems like thats how it's gonna be! I am so excited for it. I think it's really cool that someone else is going to direct it other than Miyazaki. I am definitely having an open mind about this movie.

Anyway, i think this movie is worth looking forward to since it's directed by a newbie Ghibli director maybe it will get us something fresh

Apparently Miyazaki is writing the script and closely supervising the project. That gives me hope.

I think it will be safe to say it probably won't resemble the book that much.

Being British, I am quite familiar with The Borrowers, and am quite looking forward to this adaptation. It's a shame being British will mean I won't be able to see this film at the cinema for quite some time after the Japanese release, if the Ponyo debacle was anything to go by.

I'm sure it'll be better than the live-action effort that was released a few years. If the Studio Ghibli track record is anything to go by, it'll be a spectacle for sure.
