Fanservice for female audience is very rare. Probably because girls are more interested in a guy's character than his bod, unlike us bursting-with-hormones alpha males.
At this point, I would like to sincerely claim that I have no idea where to obtain gigabytes of special material for the female audience.
... any girls biting?

I think bishonen style anime for girls is just that - an art style to appeal to a certain audience. How a boy is drawn in an animation (face, smile, eyes, mannerisms) isn't fanservice, its just the anime type.
Fanservice is definitely something that if you removed it from the scene the story wouldn't lose anything. It's also usually underwear shots, nudity, beach scenes involving silly body contact type humour etc or as Arren18 so succinctly put it "exaggerated anatomy".
Look at Fruits Basket. Yuki, Kyo, Haru and the rest of them are naked when they transform back to human form yet the way these scenes are treated is different from if the story was aimed at girls. Tohru always looks away and blushes, she's embarrassed by it and we see almost nothing of the males nude at all. If these were girls in a boy harem story you can bet the nudity would be more explicit and the boy would take a peek (nosebleeds etc).
Fanservice is a minor sub-branch of the pornography industry, 99% of that is male-aimed because males are more strongly attracted visually to females as a function of their hormones.

Yes, I agree with that, I think the same applies to bishoujo anime, though to a slightly lesser extent. As previously discussed.

Saddles... just thought I'd point out that: Fruits Basket is aimed at girls.
I've been wondering a bit more about OHSHC, and I thought perhaps it might be one of those rare examples of female fanservice. For most of their screen-time, the boys are wearing very little, and they deliberately show themselves off (well, it is their job sorta). What do we think? Does that count?

Sorry, yes, that's what I meant even though I typed the opposite!
I've not seen Ouran, not sure when I will but it is on my list of "ones to watch" (it's just a long way down).

Actually, I thought that might have been what had happened. I just wasn't sure.

Ah I'm glad you're at least intending to watch it. It's predominantly a comedy, there are some pretty hilarious episodes. And of course there's the fact that it has the highest CGF of any anime I know.

Though apparently, the "Yaoi" thing is getting popular with the women. Anyways, it's not much of a surprise that women-oriented fanservice is rare in anime, considering the main audience.

The only anime series i have watched with a particularly noticable amount of fanservice off the top of my head is Elfen Lied.. but i havent watched that much anime, and on top of that i also tend to do some research on a show before i watch it and if it seems to lack... 'taste' in some areas then i avoid it.

This is my only major gripe with the show. I just found my self thinking, "why are they naked?"

To get more boys to watch it? Without the nudity Elfen Leid would be a really good show. I'd prefer a little less blood and gore too, the point could be made without so much of that but as a general storyline and love story it's not half bad.

Nah, I took the gore and violence as being necessary to polarise the "world outside" with the "Happy, happy house" atmosphere.

Ugh. I watched the first episode of this new anime, Rosario+Vampire, because a friend told me I had to see it and it was just so sad. I can't think of one scene where there wasn't a panty shot except ones where there are only guys.
It's not the actual fanservice that bothers me...it's just its pointlessness annoys me.

Well... I think it might be the fanservice as well. How would you react if every excuse was made to include an image of a can of coke, say? In every scene? A sort of product placement thing? Pointless, irritating... yup, but that would definitely invoke a different kind of annoyance to constant and irritating panty shots wouldn't it?

Logo creep(what saddles is referring to) is to me, almost as annoying as fanservice. It is one of the many reasons that I dislike soccer. Way to much logo creep. It is in effect a similar situation. Although, Logo creeps gets the companies extra advertising. If you take it out you loose business/money. But I'm not sure how much business you would loose in anime.

I agree, almost everything these days is about money, and people take it too far; maybe even driving the audience away.

The blood and gore COULD be toned down a little bit, but I reckon it is necessary, as frigidchill said, because they´re living in a world where everyone else would do what they´re doing to them given the chance.

ye, the first scene in the first episode i was thinking okay.. shes naked... but thats because shes escaped from some freaky science test facility or something.. im cool with that.... next thing i know, every second scene involves someone feeling up someone else for absolutely no reason at all... that i am not so cool with.

I think we're missing the point here, my analogy of a coke can wasn't meant to compare fanservice with product placement, I just wanted to ask Fen if she would feel the same flavour of irritation at a repetitive, unnecessary and annoying use of an image that DIDN'T have sexual connotations.
What I wanted to say was fanservice should be annoying because of specifically what it is rather than it just being irritating, repetitive and unnecessary per se.
