Help needed finding quote by Hayao MiyazakiPost Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Search for Posts by lawstudent Report Post to a Moderator        IP Address Go to the top of this page

Hi everyone. I'm a law student doing research for a professor. He wants to use a quote from Hayao Miyazaki in one of his paper's and asked me to help him figure out where it comes from. The quote is:

"The creation of a single world comes from a huge number of fragments and chaos.”

It's always listed as coming from Hayao Miyazaki, but it never says if it comes from a specific movie. I've searched everywhere and can't figure out where it comes from. I see it quoted a lot next to pictures from My Neighbor Totoro. I'm going to start watching all of Hayao Miyazaki's movies looking for the quote, but it would really help if any of you could help point me in the right direction.

Thank you all for your help.

You can stop watching the movies, because it's not in any of them (unless you haven't seen them all, in which case please continue).

The best way to find the source is to find the original quote, in Japanese. Also, I get the feeling that it originated from an interview for Princess Mononoke, so you could check out the artbooks and the sort. The totoro picture doesn't really mean anything; Totoro is Miyazaki's most famous creation, nothing deeper.

Yeah, interviews would definitely be the place to look. He's produced some essays as well, so it could be among those.

I tried Google and it threw up the quote many times but seemingly in a context straight from his lips, rather than through a character, as Roar said.

i think you all know the famous quote

Elementary my dear Watson

i think this hayao miyazaki quote is something like that never actually said but built on his various talks and interviews.

i have done a quite extensive search using google.

the starting point by miyazaki might be a good starting point.

its quite a popular quote among ghibli lovers i wonder how i never heard it before

i am not sure though

giving up searching the net

Definitely sounds to me like something that he might have said in an interview or to an audience.

Good Luck.

@savior???

Who said that? Dick Tracy? Miss Marple?

lol

An Inspiring quote from Miyazaki, though I have heard of it but never seen or hear it say it.
