*joins in on the Kaz hugs* I'm so glad you're in a happier place, and like weirdly proud xD Thanks for sharing with us!

@FFF: Good luck dear. That time in life is the worst, but somehow you'll get through it. I'm glad your personal life is more stable now, though. I'm sure that's a nice feeling. ^^

Darlings! I'm sorry for my absence, I had a nightmare getting my laptop fixed and only got it back today.

I feel the same way as Kaz, that I grew up on here, that it's been a place for me to vent and seek comfort all throughout my teenage years. There were definitely points when my circumstances at home were....pretty dark. I think having a place like the Tavern has always comforted me in those times. Beyond that I just view all of you like my family. I honestly mean that. FFF, Kaz and Arren, I think we all joined around the same time - or at least it feels that way - and I've always sort of viewed you as my Tavern siblings :')

I'm in my final year of university now, thinking about things like my career etc. and it seems hilarious now that I joined here when I was what - twelve? I'm pretty sure for a good portion of time I typed Everything In Capital Letters Because I Thought it Was Neat. I probably splurged a good portion of my cringe-worthy weeaboo enthusiasm on here also. My writing was so terrible when I first joined the RP, and the coaching I got to improve it from you guys really meant a lot to me. I don't know, I honestly feel if I went back through the forum I could find a pretty solid record of my past decade of growth. That's a fairly amazing thing.

I love you guys.

We all love you too. Very much. Compared to how you were when you joined (hey, weren't we all like that once anyway?) these days you've matured into an amazingly intelligent person, wise beyond your years. Some of the solid and almost profound posts you've written here in some of our deeper debates truly amazed and impressed me. I think I've told you that in a private message but basically you're so epic I think you ought to be proud of being told that in public.

*huge hugs of support for your future*

I guess it's my turn...

I joined on St Patrick's Day in 2008 when I was 61 and now I'm midway through 68... lol I have come to know all of you in the Tavern and, likewise, think of you as my family. I remember Harmony-of-Mar, and many others thru the years. 'YAY, Kiki' joined a month after I did and I kind of think of her as a sibling even tho she was only 13 at the time. We learned about the Tavern together and , while she was having some home problems, I hope that they have worked out and that she will came back sometime to let us know how she is doing.

As for all the rest of us here now, I love you all. We have had many conversations together and I have tried to give advice based on my own experiences in life with no pressure to accept said advice, merely to give another option in life. I hope some of the advice or telling of my own life happenings have helped. I also know that, like family, we have had our differences but also, like family, we get over it and our bond is, if nothing else, even stronger. I'm the oldest active member in here, but not the longest and I thank you all for accepting me into the 'family'.

When I started I was still raising my family, at least my youngest son,
working hard and still dealing with my separation from married life. And to answer a question of my sister's one time, "Yes, Barbara, parenting is forever". She and her hubby, in dealing with his son, thought that at 18, high school over, college being paid for, that their parenting requirements were over and done with. Hahahaha, not on your life, little sister, lol.

My own daughter has become a member, albeit inactive, and I am now helping her when I can with her life and children. She is surviving and getting some help from unexpected sources (Princes and Princesses, even) so I hope it all works out in the end for them. I am now retired and fill my life with doing historical research in my part of Southern California, getting help through the Veterans Admin from my Navy days. I'm not rich, but I'm comfortable and that's good enough. I have some health problems, but I am receiving health care from the VA and, for the most part, at no cost to me.

Ok, this has lasted long enough, I found another picture of me back in my early days.

This is me at 14 yo... (See, I was too 14 at one time).

And this is me at 27 with my future bride at 18. Damn, look at that hair!!! Happier times...

The bracelet on my right wrist was a POW bracelet with the name of a man who was a current POW/MIA (prisoner of war/missing in action) in Vietnam.

Love you all, Husky (The Old Guy)

Arguably you still look the same with different-coloured hair. And less of it.

A lot of people post here only on Ghibli subjects and don't socialise. I didn't include them.

Saddles quote about Roar

"Just wondering what Roar did for 3 1/2 years! "

Guess he moderated himself for those years...

Brings to mind that etching of a violin maker sitting in the empty stone cell looking up at the barred window.... waiting for Ghibli fans to discover the site...

Brings up a question... How the heck did UO find him???

Wingsee's site was shut down because it got inundated by spammers. I think the admin was a casual person without too much tech skill and didn't protect it properly, or didn't have time to. It was a fun place and I know a few people who are here were there as well.

I think a few of us came here when it closed, so that puts our friendships as even older. I was probably active on Wingsee's site for 2 to 3 years before coming here.

That site had exactly the same family atmosphere.

When I say 'site' I meant 'forum'. I didn't use any other part of the site.

There were quite a few others who were active around the time I joined, but they've been gone for so long now.

It's weird to think that for a lot of us, next year will be the tenth year here! And Roar already reached that milestone...

The longevity of commitment by people to this site must be extremely rare on the internet, it could even be unique. I don't suppose anywhere on the web carries any kind of awards or data on things like this but it would be cool to know where the Tavern rates among forums with the longest active members.

I expect on big forums that have been very active for a long time, there will be some seriously long-term members. On the other hand it's probably unusual for a small forum to be stubbornly kept alive for this long by a few old members.

I haven't been very active at all on here. Life is busy. I'm a Junior in high school now and Math and Science are difficult areas for me. Lots of homework. I wish I could spend half the school day on practicing piano instead, so that maybe I could actually improve instead of feeling so disappointed with lessons. I involve myself in many extra curricular activities, because I feel like I have to make up for what I miss in school, but I am involved with way too much crap. I'm learning how to just barely keep commitments as opposed to actually learning important stuff. So I guess I'm frustrated. I know I need to do well in school in order to get to college where I will hopefully have more opportunities for real learning and growth, but it also feels pointless to do things in preparation for the future when I could be doing them now. After all, I can't be certain of my future- but school right now just seems like a chore that needs to be done to obtain meaningful education later rather than an effort towards meaningful education now. I guess I feel like Shizuku- more than anything I would like to say screw school and work on something I actually want to work on, but if I did that I think my life could end up being a lot harder in the long run. But, I don't know, maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing. But the personally worse decision of going along with school normally, seems to be the best option for survival in this American society. So that's basically what I've been doing and then stressing over juggling all my commitments: Theater, Piano Lessons, Writing a Newsletter, Art class, naturally I procrastinate most on the subjects I am least interested in: Math/Science. I think I'll get by, but there are few things more unsatisfying than just getting by when I know I'm capable of so much more. I have so many advantages that really it's pretty selfish for me to complain about school, but I know that bad education effects many people and I want to make a difference with my talents and an actual positive impact on society just as much as any well-meaning person does. Anyway, I guess this turned into a vent, but I still feel pretty good most of the time. I ignore stuff too much to be stressed out all the time, lol. And aside from school my life's great.

Just sneak in a glass of bubble tea and sit back and relax a bit... lol

After all, what's the point of having the name if you can't take advantage of it... lol

I started 11 grade (my junior year) in 1962 in Virginia, but the English requirements were so different from what had been required in California that I never made it out of 11A semester... Came Spring Break in 1964 and my parents asked me if I wanted to drop out and join the Navy and get my GED (high school equivilency) later and I agreed. Got my GED while in the Navy and went to Night High School just before and after I got out of the Navy. I then went on later to two years college and graduated with a 3.50 honors degree.
