I totally agree with OYM Angel, Terry Pratchett totally rocks, you should so give him a go, really funny!! If you're after something a little deeper, Isaac Asimov is very good, I particularly recommend I, Robot. If you like Dan Brown, then read the book he stole the idea from, The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail (it may not be a novel, but it's truly a riveting read).
Film wise, make it a point to see Perfect Blue (awesome anime psychological thriller) and the two recent Stephen Chow movies, Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle (great effects and v.funny).

Charles de Lint novels are very good, sort of fantasy with a mordern twist. My favourites are Forests of the Heart and The onion Girl, not for kids though can be a bit harsh, not that i'm saying your a kid, just mean they're adult, not in a porno way, i think i'll just shut up now!

Add Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy to that book list, without doubt the best comedy sci-fi book ever written!!

You're a Terry Pratchett fan too? ^_^
And yeah, I totally agree that Perfect Blue and Kung-Fu Hustle are awesome.

Death, the Witches, the Librarian and the Bursar are my favorite Discworld characters. I highly recommend The Art of Discworld as well.
A good graphic novel is The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Batman is getting old, and he decides to make a comeback, as a wave of terror descends on Gotham City.

Dude, that's spooky...Batman is my absolutely favourite thing in the whole world ever!!!! That graphic sounds awesome...my fave is Arkham Asylum. The Joker is my god, I'm so jealous of Harley Quinn!!

I'll go with the flow here and also recommend Discworld (Death's my fav character too). The first two graphic novels ('The Colour of Magic', 'Light Fantastic') are particularly good.
I recently finished reading the first book in the Earthsea series too ('A Wizard of Earthsea') and I must say, its fantastic. I think I may post a detailed review later, but to summerise -its a short, fast-paced book, yet never feels rushed and is quite profound at times. Therefore I don't really agree with shiawase that it is of a 'low reading' level -in fact, I've spoken to a few who have had trouble understanding the book.
Oh and if fantasy isn't really your thing, then I recommend the Dickens classic, 'David Copperfield'. Its a little lengthy, but a real emotional rollercoaster.

I read Arkham Asylum. It was pretty good, but the art style made me feel like I was crazy (to me, the art style combined with the story reminded me of a dream or something).
The Dark Knight Strikes Back (the sequel to The Dark Knight Returns) is good too. It takes place three years since the events of the last book. It's gotten mixed reviews, and I can understand why. I also recommend The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. Delirium's my favorite character in that one.
Another good book is The Silver Crown by Robert C. O'Brian. It's usually found in the children's section, but some of the subject matter is definately NOT for children.

Oh, and the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede is an excellent series. There's four books and a book of short stories, some of which are related to the series.

Yeah, Dan Brown's books are really good.
If you like mystery, I'd recommend the complete collection of Sherlock Holmes. It's absolutely awesome.
The Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini is really good; the first book is Eragon, which I'd say is the best. (The third hasn't come out yet.)
Um, Cornelia Funke writes good stuff too, but I don't know if you'd like it.
Then comes the obvious Harry Potter...

Oh yes, those are good. Incidentally, I own a certain collection that is supposedly as close as a direct copy as the ones printed in the magazines. It's by Wordsworth, if anyone's wondering.
