Do yo know if an ordinary author (I mean someone who ain't from the Ghibli studio staff)'s anime can be produced by Ghibli, or if there are special contests for selection.
Thanks.

Well I don't know how they select thier stuff. Most movie companies pick what they like or what's popular.
I heard that Howl's Moving Castle was written by a European woman. It was just a regular children's book like Harry Potter, not a manga or comic. Miasaki (sp?) just adapted the story. He didn't actually write it.
Walt Disney dose the same thing with thier movies.
I'm not in the biz,
but I have learned a few things about movie companies.
You have to have your story written out and have copies made. Mail them to the studios. If they read your script and like it they might set up an appointment with you. You have to have a good "sales pitch". Be prepared for rejection. If one company dosen't like your idea, don't give up. You might get lucky with some other company.

The movie Howl's Moving Castle is a loose adaptation of the original novel, which means that the story, characterization and such in the film are almost totally different from the book, and are more Miyazakian than Diana Wynne Jones-ish. Miyazaki did write the screenplay.

Thundercat 2, I thank ya a lot 4 ur contribution. U may nat believe this , but u've been very helpful to me. These advices are so simply delivered 'n I have found what I wanted.
I also thank ya Konan, for precisin' this. So if I get u right, a novel , a screenplay or a script can be rewritten by a studio in order to readapt it for an anime movie, right ?
But still I need to know about something: the copyrihgt. Is the author'story worth a copyright before being posted to a studio? When(at which level) in the anime production do we happen to deal with the copyright?
Another thing: did Miyazaki stepped a process to acquire or to dispose of the original story of Diana Wynne Jones?
To end with, I would be glad if u or anyone could provide me with some studios' addresses.
Regards to y'all.

I believe all he did basically was to ask the author if he could use their works to make a movie, then buy the rights for the movie when approved. That's how it usually works anyway.

What I meant was, it wasn't his original idea. Sorry

I tried to retrieve the address's to several studios for you but I can only find address's in KANJI (which isn't entirely useless to me). So yeah, nothing I found would be found useful to you. I tried. Sorry.
