I know I do. I want to write and direct. Of course I don't plan on starting at the top.

I'll be a writer, no matter what. Directing on the other hand may not be my bread.

All I ever wanted to do was write. But... then I got into film, one thing led to another, and now I'm a micro manager. Like Joss Whedon, only not as talented.
I just can't stand the idea of someone taking my idea, and not only messing with it, But taking credit for it! Because in film the writers never get the credit.

I enjoy writing short stories. Fantasy and fiction. I might, one day, animate one of my stories but I wouldn't do anything serious.

Right now I'm working on a screenplay based loosely on the James Thurber novel "The Thirteen Clocks". I'd love to direct an animated version of it (it'll only be about 30 minutes long).

Have you gotten permission from Mr. Thurber or his Publisher yet. Not to shoot you down, but you should always get the ok to do so before you begin writing it. Alot of guys have gotten in trouble for this kind of thing.
I'm not saying you're a bad guy, but it is a form of copyright breach, and if you told them you already wrote it when you ask to make a movie, they could sue you.

Just thought you could use the warning. Keep up the good work.

You're correct -- "The Thirteen Clocks" was first published in 1951, so it is not in the public domain. However, I have no intent of publishing it any time soon (I am just a teenager), but by the time it's in the public domain, I'll be well in adulthood and will probably revise it to great lengths. That's the only time I'll ever have the opportunity to produce it.

Cool, just don't tell to many people about it. Or it could get ugly.

Actually, I don't see what's the problem. Unless the screenplay actually gets published as an official script, there's no law saying you can't write a screenplay from someone else's work.

If that were to happen, you'd see lots of school kids in jail for school plays.

This is why I was concerned:

"Never attempt an adaptation before acquiring the rights to do it.
One of the best ways to send literary agents and lawyers through the roof is to tell them you've just finished a wonderful adaptation of this novel and are calling about . . ."

I know this is for play writing but I think it applies here too. So just by telling them that the script has already been written, without first asking permission to. Could get him in trouble.

I also plan to study animation, along with literature, music, art and language.
I am so looking foward to grasp the world with my imagination, not that I don't already. I ahve so many ideas for movies......I dream them up all the time! Anyways for a school project I am thinking of doing a short animated clip...about 15-30 minutes long. Perhaps something like the grave of the fireflies, in which it would tug at emotions. Hopefully I'll be able to figure things out before then so I won't have to resort to an easy project. Anyways good luck to you all, and hopefully this dream of yours becomes reality! I am sure someday I'll become a great animator as Miyazaki (hopefully) and perhaps we will even do a project together, something the world will be amazed about!
