You did a fine job! I enjoyed it. I read the original long ago since I've taken Asahi(news paper) for 30 years.

Recently the plot of Nono-chan often leaps or doesn't have clear punch line. I'm afraid it isn't so funny for many people.

Btw, I have a question on the 19th episode. Matsuko's phone call says, "When's my birthday?" but "your birthday". Is it OK?

I think Roarkiller writes Japanese very well. Roar's Japanese is much better than my English, at least. I believe most of those here are young enough to start learning new languages, compared to me.

Talikng about subtitles, it's general knowledge that subtitles often lose actual dialogue. Certain reasons why Japanese start leaning English are they want to watch Hollywood movies without subtitles. They want to laugh at the same points with English speakers. Maybe half of dialogues are lost in Japanese sub. In fact, I can't get most of dialogues of Hollywood movies.

I bought Ibarad Jikan DVD and watched it.
This is made to show Inoue Naohisa's painting arts.
Inoue's painting shows us his fantastic world---Iblard.
We can see some of it in "Whisper of the heart".
Iblard Jikan has no story and no dialogue. Most of it is still images. Animated parts are small and short.
If you expect somthing drama like in this movie, you'll be dissapointed or bored.
You can see the trailer here.

I prefer Country Road sung by Olivia Newton-John to John Denver. We can hear Olivia's singing at the opening of Mimi wo Sumaseba. I've loved and heard it before the movie was released. Japanese Wikipedia says that Olivia's Country Road was released only in Japan in 1976. Is that right?? Anyone knows it?

Ghibli had been one of the branches of Tokuma-shoten for 20 years. Tokuma got financial difficulty in the end of 20th century, Ghibli was parted in 2005 and it became an independent company. But I guess Tokuma still now possesses part of the stock of Ghibli. Now Ghibli seems to be a related company of Nihon-TV----a big broadcast company---

I'm also very currious about Takahata's new film.
But I can't find more information than Suzuki's comment.
Takahata is 72 years old now though, there are many older directors than he in real action films.
If I can see one more Takahata's film, it'll be big pleasure for me.

Kon's Tokyo God Fathers is a kind of heart warming story and everyone can enjoy it. I also enjoyed it much.
However talking about Paprika, it isn't easy to follow the story. Paprika and Millennium Actress and Perfect Blue have some similarity in their composition . I believe Paprika is the best in these 3. We can enjoy its awesome imagination and fantastic world. We can see quite different way from American full CG animations like Pixer or so. Kon says that his movie may select audience. But I'm sure many of guys here surely can enjoy Paprika. You must watch it when english sub comes out..

Wikipedia says like this

Viewers ranking (theater release)

1 Spirted away (2001) ---------23500000
2 Howl (2004) --------------------15000000
3 Mononoke (1997) ------------14200000
4 Gedo (2006) -------------------- 5880000
5 Cat's returns (2002) ----------5500000
6 Porco Rosso (1992) ----------3040000
7 Pompoko (1994) --------------3250000
8 Kiki (1989) ----------------------2640000
9 Only Yesterday (1991) ---------.......
10 Whisper (1995) --------------2080000
11 Yamada's (1999) ----------.......
12 Nausicca (1984) -------------- 910000
13 Totoro/Fireflies (198 ------ 800000
14 Laputa (1986) ------------------ 770000

As you know, this ranking doesn't mean the quality or popularity. At the beginning of Ghibli, they didn't get big name recognition. As Nausicca(not ghibli), Laputa and Totoro got not so many screens for releasing, their result wasn't good. After Kiki, Ghibli became big name and released in widely.
Btw, my personal ranking is upside down of viewers ranking.

You don't need any special tools, but only a pencil and paper.
Look at Miyazai's drawing below. He uses only pencil and water color.
I hear Urasawa (most famous manga writer in Japan now) uses only one pen for 30 years.
You should imitate the manga drawn by your favorite writer .
Miyazaki and Urasawa imitated Tezuka's manga in their childhood and skilled up.

The original novel was wrtten by Tsutsui Yasutaka about 30 years ago. Kon Satoshi's Paplica is also written by Tsutsui.
It was first filmed 1983 directed by Obayashi as real action movie.
It got a big hit and the song written by Yumin also got big hit. Good song. If you want it, PM me.
I have this movie as a file but haven't watched it.
I have no idea about 1997 film. It is also real action. Maybe they are same story. Both 2 was produced by same person---Kadokawa Haruki. Kadokawa has his own movie company. He directed 1997 by himself.

TOKI-KAKE 2006 didn't hit at all. It was released in summer vacation and strong rivals occupied most of screens all over Japan-------like GEDO, Brave Story, Cars, Pirates of Caribian2....... TOKI got only few screens. If a movie can't make an ally of strong distributor, it must fail in business.

left---1983, right---2006

Kamaji is acted by Sugawara Bunta-----is a famous real action actor. He also acted Gedo( aka--Haitaka) in Gedo Senki.

That tool is called YAGEN. It's a kind of stone mill.
He is grinding medicinal herb. It is usaly used by raditional medicine doctors.

Btw, his name is Kama-ji. Kama means boiler and Ji means old man.
We can see same charactor in Laputa. He is also boiler man of pirate's air ship.

I watched it yesterday!!
In last summer, TOKI-KAKE completely got beaten by GEDO in buisiness in Japan.
However many critics said TOKI is much better than GEDO.
Yes, TOKI-KAKE is not bad.....
But, I can tell you, 5cm/sec is much better than TOKI or GEDO.

I saw some Ghibli art staffs in ending credit roll of TOKI......Oga, Takeshige.......
I found Special edited DVD box of TOKI-KAKE at DVD shop. I didn't buy it though......

You should come to Fukuoka Japan.
It takes only 3 hours from Pusan to Fukuoka by ship.
You can take one day round trip.
Fukuoka is a big city. You can find genuine Ghibli shop there.
If you want, I'll send more information about Fukuoka.

What is that wavy line? It requires convert into kanji?
My IME is like this.

First, input hiragana, then IME requires how convert to kanji with dot underline.
Second, push space key, then IME shows 1st choice of convert with solid underline.
Third, push enter key, then IME decides.
