Happy New Year!!
I feel like I accomplished so much in 2018. I even solo traveled to South Korea without much of a plan and had an awesome time. Planning more adventures for this year.

This just makes me think...
Looking back 8-10 years ago at what and where we all were, especially you younger one's... It's been quite a trip, hasn't it... But, it's been fun, too... I'm sure that it hasn't all been peaches and cream, but look at where we were and where we are now!!! Some of us traveling around to foreign countries, some continuing on with studies, some married and starting families, Some (the older ones, lol) retiring and enjoying our leisure (?) years and the joys and troubles of our problems of our children and their children... Life goes on...
All I got to say about all this is:
Many, Many Happy Years ahead for all of us...

Ugh, apparently my company will only sponsor my visa for one year at a time. They only do one-year contracts, so it's not like it doesn't make sense, but it doesn't exactly make me feel indispensable. And unless I get other work that would sponsor it for longer, I'll have to go through the same process every year.....

today is Hayao's birthda and none of you remembered, right? how about sending him some present for once damn, he's older than my parents, hope he makes it until the end of his next cartoon.
in the unrelated news, say husky and that one other old guy here, explain old people to me, huh. why do they freeze in time? why do they always go about how they want to (re)connect with their kids, but they do not bother to learn anything new? how stereotypical is that grandpa who tells his vietnam story for the 100-th time, when talking to his family? I mean, I get it, most of them have a hard time getting out of the house, so nothing new happens in their lives for the most of time, but you have the technology, the internet that can instantly connect you to like 80% of human knowledge, and what do you do with it? you watch parrots and cats on youtube. or ghibli cartoons. why don't you learn some interesting fact and tell me about it, if you really want my attention? I don't get it. is it because you slowly die inside, literally, like neurons stop firing and you become incapable of processing new information? I look at my parents, and I seriously fear of my own time, when it comes.

Thanks, husky. Some other parts of the process are also stressing me out, so I'm not looking forward to this being a regular thing, but hopefully it'll all be sorted out.

@makc:
First of all, we are not all alike. I have trouble walking any great distance and yet a friend of mine who is older still goes jogging most days and he and another friend of mine go hiking on wilderness trails, etc. We all use the internet and I can't speak for all my friends, but one of them avidly plays one of the internet games where he interacts with others, young and old, and one of them is a professor at USC who is an avid shooter and some of us get together and go up into the mountains and go shooting at targets. I am a County Historical commissioner and get out and about with others with the same interests. I do a lot of reading, but that is something that I've done since a child. I will sometimes read 15-20 books a month, mostly fiction, but historical info as well.
As for my family, I raised three of them and they are now raising their kids and I interact and bond with all of them as much as I can. I didn't have it, so I try to give my gkids a lot of Gpa, so that they have good memories of me when I'm gone myself. The older ones 9-10 and above, etc all have internet or phone connections with me and often call.
If I could afford it, I would be enrolled in some university courses. I and others go 100 miles away once a month and work on a Veterans Memorial. Since the walking isn't good, I prepare the lunch for all hands on the grill and act as a docent telling guests about the memorial...
I have never considered the Tavern as a place to entertain others with stories or info except for Ghibli related stuff. If it happens, it happens, but I don't plan on it...
As for neuron's and shutting down... Hey, we all DIE, it is inevitable and I don't worry or fret about it. If I wake up in the morning, great. When the time comes that I don't, hey, I've had a reasonably good life... I've done everything that I've wanted to do, but I stll want to do a parachute jump, I just have to lose a few more pounds first. Then it is a go.

You're right. This is what happens when politicians prioritise their careers over the lives of the people they were elected to serve.

I think that the kids in fireflies grave maybe did not open the box and release their mother spirit because they could not. Remember that to open the can and release his sister spirit it had to be live human. So maybe they two cannot interact with physical objects, which is why their mother remains trapped, and they are actually waiting for someone to open the box and release her.

Obviously it's just a conjecture. I 've got this idea after I rewatched the scene where the girl ghost arrives - the janitor threw the can and her bones got out when it opened as it hit the ground.

I went to a work party and the English teacher I've had issues with was acting weird. He got drunk and then ran away from me instead of saying goodbye.

Anyone know anything about Saddles? I've wondered for a while, because he was pretty active for some time but now hasn't posted in a few months. It seems unlike him.

I was thinking the same thing... sent him a message last week actually and did not hear back. Hoping he is well and just busy.
